Colin Jost was tricked into reading a joke about his wife, Scarlett Johansson, as part of his and Michael Che’s joke swap during the Dec. 20 episode of Saturday Night Live

“Wow, Colin, I wouldn’t have done that one,” Che quipped after Jost was forced to poke fun at the Black Widow star

Colin Jost did not score any brownie points from his wife, Scarlett Johansson, during the latest episode of Saturday Night Live.

During SNL’s Dec. 20 episode, which featured host Ariana Grande and musical guest Cher, Jost and his fellow “Weekend Update” anchor, Michael Che, made each other read jokes they’d never seen before as part of their final joke swap of the year.

“Tonight is our Christmas show, and we have a tradition where me and Colin give each other jokes to read that neither of us have ever seen,” Che, 42, explained. But this year, it seems Jost wasn’t informed of the plan.

“That’s interesting because you specifically said that we were not doing it this year. And you know that I did not write any jokes for you,” Jost, 43, said, to which Che replied, “Well, I guess you’ll just have to read mine.”

After reading two jokes about ignoring civil rights and setting up “a $300 million fund for victims of church sexual abuse,” Jost was left to read the most personal joke of all.

“New research shows that millions of women leave the workforce due to menopause which means there's only a couple years left on my gravy train,” he read before a photo of Johansson, 41, popped up on the screen next to him. “My girl already be like, ‘Colin, I’m warm. Colin, I’m sweating.’ B----, you’re having a hot flash.”

“But don't worry about me, I got a back up,” he continued as the photo of Johansson, with whom Jost shares 4-year-old son Cosmo, was replaced with a pic of Jenna Ortega dressed as Wednesday Addams. “They don’t call Wednesday hump day for nothing.”

Following a few seconds of silent laughter, Che quipped, “Wow, Colin, I wouldn’t have done that one.”

After all, this wasn’t the first time that Jost and his wife were the butt of a “Weekend Update” swapped joke. In December 2024, Jost was forced to say that “Costco has removed their roast beef sandwich from their menu,” adding, “But I ain’t tripping, I be eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”

He then lowered his face in his hands while Johansson could be seen mouthing, “Oh my God,” from backstage.

“I feel like it’s almost my responsibility to come up with some way to burn Michael back,” the Black Widow star later told Vanity Fair of the joke. “Retaliation, I’d say, should be expected. Others on the show could support this desire. Know what I mean?”
