Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo are sharing that they don't let their kids watch every Disney movie.
The couple spoke about the topic on this week's episode of their podcast The Jinger and Jeremy Podcast, explaining that Jinger's family wasn't allowed to watch Disney movies growing up.
"Magic was something that they, I think it makes sense as a Christian why you would want to avoid that," Jinger explained. "I don't know if that was a teaching of Bill Gothard or not, but definitely thinking about the spiritual world and those things that we don't wanna mess with, I think that was something that a lot of Christians shied away from."

"I think that Disney definitely promoted a lot of that magic. And it was like, you know, that's kind of what they're known for," she continued. Jinger said that instead of watching Disney movies, her family mostly watched stories about the Bible or shows about historical figures.
She explained that there was one time she was allowed to pick out a few films from the Disney store, and they settled on The Shaggy D.A. and Herbie the Lovebug. But she said they wouldn't have been allowed to watch movies like Fantasia.
For her own kids — daughter Felicity Nicole, 7, and Evangeline Jo, 4, and Finnegan Charles, 8 months. — Jinger said she and her husband Jeremy try to stay away from screens in general. However, she'll let them watch shows like PBS's Franklin or Curious George.
"I like the slower-paced movies, the older movies, even older Disney movies," she said. "It's kind of fun to let the kids watch that."

Jeremy then directly asked Jinger about how they've approached the Christian thinking that Disney movies can be "demonic."
"Well, I think I'll start talking about it, but then I want you to jump in because I'm sure you have a lot of wisdom in this. Because we've had to navigate it thinking, okay, as Christians, how do we handle even the spiritual world?" she began.
"I think a lot of Christians think that things are going to overtake them unknowingly. And that's kind of the setting I grew up in, superstition takes over. So you think if I engage with this darkness in any form, then it's going to overtake me and I won't even know it," explained Jinger. "And there's a fear that can grip you. And that's what I grew up thinking."
With their own kids, Jinger said there's one movie she won't let their kids watch about a Disney princess. While she says she can't remember the name, she says it "goes into voodoo."
"It's like the green princess dress. I don't even remember her name, but it's with the frog and the princess dress. Is it Tiana? I don't even know," Jinger said, referencing the Disney animated film The Princess and the Frog.
"See, I don't even remember. But I watched a section of it one time, and it goes into voodoo, and I'm like, I'm not gonna let my kids watch that because I don't believe that that's true. I don't want them thinking that's good," she explained.

Jinger shared that when it comes to movies with Mickey Mouse and magic, it's pretty harmless, and she'd let her kids watch that.
"But then you even said with the other princess, you go, man, this is just too much. Or even with Mickey sometimes, and you go, so is there this undercurrent of influence?" Jeremy later said.
"I heard a parent talking the other day about the princess themes of Disney movies and how, if you really think about it, Disney characters, like the main characters in Disney movies, are rewarded for disobeying their parents," he continued. "And it's so often the parents coming back to them at the end of the movie, going, 'You were so right. Thank you for saving all of us. We're glad you didn't listen to us. And you start seeing certain themes emerge. And I don't think that's crazy conspiracy.'"
Jinger said she and Jeremy had concluded that they aren't going to be letting their kids watch Disney movies every day and admitted that she does "shy away from those movies."
