Kevin Jonas is serving as a temporary host on Live with Kelly and Mark while Kelly Ripa remains away from the show. Her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, explained that since Ripa underwent surgery on her mouth, she will be off the show.
According to Consuelos, his 55-year-old wife will remain absent for the week as she recovers from gum graft surgery.
Later in the show, speaking with Jonas, Consuelos reflected on Ripa’s high pain tolerance, while stating that this surgery took a toll.
Kelly Ripa Ordered Not to Talk as She Heals From Gum Graft Surgery
During Monday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa’s husband and co-host Mark Consuelos explained why Kevin Jonas appeared as a temporary host.
“Kelly sends her love,” he said. “Kelly had a little bit — well, it’s not a little — she had a gum graft surgery,” Consuelos explained while speaking with Jonas.
He added, “Her dentist said five years ago, ‘You can do it in about five years.’ And she joked, ‘I didn’t think I’d still be on the air in five years!’” But now, here she is.
According to Consuelos, Ripa is recovering well at home, and has been instructed to follow a long list of post-surgery guidelines from her dentist, including a strict no-talking rule.

“Wow, that’s got to be the hardest thing she’s ever done,” Jonas joked as Consuelos revealed the no-talking instruction. Consuelos replied, “She’s such a great conversationalist.”
Mark Consuelos Opens Up About Kelly Ripa’s High Pain Tolerance
Further in the conversation, as Kevin Jonas asked whether a gum graft is a painful procedure, Mark Consuelos said, “Yeah, it’s painful,” while reflecting on his wife’s pain tolerance.
Consuelos explained, “But she famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t use the novocaine. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad.”
Continuing the conversation, Jonas recalled his wife, Danielle Jonas’ pain tolerance. “I’ll be like, ‘Are you in pain?’ She’s like, ‘I’m fine!’ Come to find out her foot’s, like, falling off,” he revealed.
To this, Consuelos responded, “Well, they do have kids. They deliver kids. We’re not built for that.” Meanwhile, Kelly Ripa’s fans have been sharing their well-wishes for her on social media.
