The first trailer for Michael B. Jordan’s The Thomas Crown Affair catches the actor in a high-stakes art heist — with an unexpected love interest on his heels

“I’ve been taking risks my entire life,” Jordan’s character says in the trailer. “But last night, it was different. I felt alive”

The film also stars Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh and Aubrey Plaza, and is set to release on March 5, 2027

The Oscar-winning actor, 39, stars as the titular Thomas Crown, a billionaire who decides to relieve his boredom with a heist of a treasured painting, in a thrilling first glimpse of the 2027 film. Jordan features opposite Adria Arjona, who plays a determined insurance investigator and formidable opponent — and his complicated romantic interest.

The trailer begins with Thomas at the foot of a long staircase inside a museum, presumably standing between him and his target painting — what appears to be Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

“I’ve been taking risks my entire life,” Jordan’s character says in a voiceover. “But last night, it was different. I felt alive.”

As Thomas continues his trek up the stairs, brief glimpses of his dramatic endeavors — including scaling a skyscraper and a high-speed car race — peek through.

“My heart was racing. Every step was part of a plan,” he continued. Then, “things slowed down — it was silent. And I was surprised, how easy it was. But I’m not finished yet. That’s what excites me.”

Enter Arjona, 34, as the investigator hot on Thomas’s trail, and amid the escapades and adventure, a certain affection between the two seems to form. When Thomas first introduces himself to her at a formal event, Arjona’s character replies, “I know exactly who you are.”

Later, in a scene set on an idyllic, rocky beach, Thomas leans in to kiss his opponent-turned-love interest. The scenes devolve into action, tension and violence before landing, once again, on the coast as the pair’s connection grows more complex.

“If you don’t jump, you can’t catch me,” Thomas says, receiving a moody glance from Arjona’s character before stepping off a cliffside to plummet into the waters below.

The forthcoming film from Amazon MGM is a remake of the original 1968 film, and also stars Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira and Pilou Asbæk. Jordan also serves as the film’s director and a producer.

The movie follows the 1999 remake, which starred Pierce Brosnan in the titular role opposite Rene Russo.
