Did you catch Stephen Colbert's cameo in The Testaments?

The Late Show host has a secret role in the new Handmaid's Tale sequel series, which premiered with the first three episodes on Hulu on Wednesday, April 8. Colbert, 61, is the voice of the radio station that Daisy (Lucy Halliday) tunes into, secretly, from Gilead, Radio Free Boston. The station is a means of her staying in contact with Mayday while she remains embedded in the patriarchal society.

Showrunner Bruce Miller confirmed to TV Insider that Colbert "gave us a few minutes of [his] time and their voice to be the voice of ‘Radio Free Boston.' "

“He was lovely to do it for us, and we very much appreciate it,” Miller said, calling Colbert a "good person to be the voice of free speech in America."

The Testaments is a follow-up series that picks up 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale finale, which aired in May. The series, which is based on Margaret Atwood's 2019 novel, follows teenagers Agnes (Chase Infiniti) and Daisy, who are enrolled at an elite prep school run by Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) and her disciples, and are being reared to become docile wives to high-ranking Gilead men.

The series "is its own show," Miller told PEOPLE before its premiere. "You don't have to watch The Handmaid's Tale and even if you don't know anything about a Handmaid, I wanted it to be very user-friendly."

Elisabeth Moss is involved in the series, too, both behind the camera and in front of it. She's a producer, but also reprised her Handmaid's Tale character, June Osborne, multiple times in the first three episodes.

"She didn't want to hang up her cloak, as she says," Miller told PEOPLE, calling Moss, 43, "my creative partner since the beginning."

"She's integral," he said. "She would've been central to this show anyway, even if she wasn't in it. But I think she was very eager to come back."

He said it "would always have been my desire" to see Moss back on-screen as June in The Testaments, but he didn't know for sure whether she'd be able to swing it. "A lot of those things end up being practical. And not only is Elisabeth Moss quite a busy producer, she's also quite a busy actress and quite a busy director."

"But in terms of Handmaid's Tale — when you get to the end of Handmaid's Tale, I think you feel that [June] has won some great victories and not won some great victories. I think you feel like she has more to do and have a sense of what she would be doing," he said.

New episodes of The Testaments premiere Wednesdays on Hulu.
