As a first look at Jason Momoa as DC Comics character Lobo debuts in the new *Supergirl* trailer, the team behind the film discusses how the actor lobbied for this role.

In the previous era of DC Studios, Momoa portrayed the Atlantian hero Aquaman in multiple movies. Peter Safran, who now co-heads the studio division with *Superman* director James Gunn, knows the star well from his time as an executive producer on his two standalone films.

"He's been talking about it forever," Safran tells ** of Momoa's Lobo interest at an earlier *Supergirl* trailer preview event in New York City. "He was talking about it when he was doing *Aquaman* with me. He was talking about, 'I'd rather be doing Lobo.' But when the day was announced that we got this job [leading DC], he texted both of us, all caps, 'LOBO,' 10 exclamation marks. That was it...And a few Xs."

Lobo is a wild card in the canon of DC, as a galactic motorcycle-riding bounty hunter. He arrives in the *Supergirl* trailer in one brief shot, smoking a cigar. He's one of several new characters making their onscreen debut when the film opens in U.S. theaters next year on June 26, 2026.

Milly Alcock, who previously starred in *House of the Dragon* as young Rhaenyra Targaryen, headlines *Supergirl* as Kara Zor-El. A young alien girl by the name of Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley) tracks her down while the boozehound Kryptonian is celebrating her birthday. Ruthye hopes Kara will aid her on a personal vengeance mission against those who killed her family.

The story, from screenwriter Ana Nogueira, is based on the events of writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely's acclaimed comic book *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*. Matthias Schoenaerts will portray villain Krem of the Yellow Hills; David Krumholtz will play Supergirl's father, Zor-El; and Emily Beecham will play her mother, Alura In-Ze.

The specific role Momoa's Lobo plays in all this is still TBD, but Alcock comments, "It was really interesting to watch him."

Safran continues, "It's so great to have an actor who is such a volunteer and not a recruit. He just wanted to do it. So when we had the script, and we were ready to go, it wasn't even a question. It was like, 'Here you go.' He's like, 'I'm in, let's go.' It was easy."
