Sunny Anderson isn’t afraid to talk finances — on The Drew Barrymore Show and beyond.
The Drew Crew member shocked Drew Barrymore, Valerie Bertinelli, and Ross Mathews when she revealed on Wednesday’s episode that she hasn’t had a credit card or credit at all since 1998.
The topic arose during a conversation about admin nights, a new trend in which friends meet up to tackle a variety of tasks that are wasting away on their respective to-do lists like budgeting and paying bills.

Anderson explained that she grew up talking about money “all the time” with her family.
“I love it, because I think that many families you grew up, you didn’t talk about it at all,” she said, noting that it can then feel “very uncomfortable” to discuss finances later on in life.
“I grew up with my dad showing us his paycheck, showing us the bills. I’ll make a confession: I haven’t had a credit card or credit since 1998,” Anderson said.
The camera then cut to a shocked Barrymore and Bertinelli. “What!” the host exclaimed.

Anderson admitted that her decision to live without a credit card has puzzled people over the years.
“People are like, ‘How did you travel?’” she recalled. “Well, I would take 500 bucks with me to check into a hotel because that’s what you had to do back then. I couldn’t rent a car, so I had trick for that.”

She continued, “I would, like, land at an airport and I would take the hotel shuttle to the hotel close to where I was staying and then just walk or whatever. But yeah, I always figured it out.”
But not having a credit card has come with its own silver lining. “I’m zero debt since 1998,” Anderson said.

In response, Mathews, who was initially against talking money with his pals, quipped, “Okay, I’ve changed my answer: I will sit down with Sunny and go through finances.”
